Magento / Adobe Commerce SEO

Magento SEO for catalogues too large for generic advice to actually help

Magento tends to run the larger, more established stores, which means the technical problems are bigger too: layered navigation at scale, multi-store setups, and speed issues that need proper server-level fixes, not just theme tweaks.

What actually moves the needle on Magento

The problems that show up at scale, not the ones every generic guide covers.

Where most stores lose ground

Layered navigation crawl traps

Magento's filter system can generate an enormous number of URL combinations on a large catalogue. Without proper canonical and noindex rules, Google can spend most of its crawl budget on filter combinations nobody searches for.

Multi-store and multi-language setups

Magento's native multi-store feature is powerful, but hreflang and cross-store canonical tags are frequently misconfigured, causing the wrong regional version to rank in the wrong market.

Full-page caching and server response time

Without a properly configured caching layer, Magento's flexibility comes at a real speed cost. This is usually a development task, but the SEO impact of getting it wrong is significant.

Magento / Adobe Commerce SEO: FAQs

It's more complex, not necessarily harder, once someone genuinely understands the platform. The issues tend to be bigger in scale (layered navigation on catalogues of thousands of SKUs) rather than different in kind from other platforms.

Layered navigation crawl traps. A large catalogue with several filter attributes can generate URL combinations numbering in the millions if left completely unmanaged, which can genuinely damage how Google crawls the rest of your site.

SEO capability is largely the same between them. Adobe Commerce adds enterprise features like B2B functionality and page builder tools, but core technical SEO control exists in both versions.

Each store view needs correct hreflang tags and canonical configuration so Google understands which version to show in which market. Misconfigured, this commonly causes the wrong regional site to outrank the correct one.
